Customer Success Story: Interview with Flors Laia

Flors Laia is a cute little flower store on the outskirts of Barcelona, near the hills to the north of the city. We caught up with Montse, one of the owners. The name combines the Catalan word for ‘flowers’, with the name of their daughter, Laia.

She started the business over 10 years ago, with her then-husband Eudal. They still work closely together, and the pair remain friends.

We ask Montse about how she got started, and if she had any advice for any young entrepreneurs out there.

How and why did you start your business?

It was a hard time of my life, I left a career in office work, and decided to start again, a new stage.

What was the most difficult thing about starting?

The hardest thing to start with is the insecurity you have about yourself, doing something you never thought of doing.

What were the key factors that propelled your business to where it is today?

It was my co-worker, my friend, who was my partner at the time, who encouraged me and was and is, at all times. I confirm that one without the other, for the work, if we were not together, it would not work. One brings one thing and the other brings another.

How important is visibility and exposure for Flors Laia?

It’s very important. We try to take care of the smallest detail.

How do you think having personalized uniforms with the logo helps your business?

We have been wearing uniforms for some time now, and I am sure that customers have more confidence in us and we look more serious than if we were not wearing them.

Do you think having new uniforms helps improve team morale and cohesion?

Yes, fresh ideas are always a good thing.

What impact do you think it will have on your customers?

They will like it, they’ll see that we are always in fashion.

"I am sure that customers have more confidence in us and we look more serious than if we were not wearing them."

Apart from uniforms, what are the most important ways and means for you to promote your business?

Always keeping informed of any news, updating the inventory depending on demand, and continuously reorganizing the store.

What are your future goals for the business?

My goals are, in the short and long term, to keep improving day by day, to make the company more profitable. We’ll decide what we do as we go.

What advice would you give to novice entrepreneurs, in your industry and in general?

They should be patient, perseverant, and remember that day by day we are all learning.
